Ban Viengmai: a south-east village address to know

Ban Viengmai is a useful name when Luang Prabang’s old peninsula is too broad a reference. The official Luang Prabang City Map 2024 writes the village as Ban Viengmay and places it at grid H16. The spelling in the city’s tourism material differs slightly from the Ban Viengmai display name used here, so keep both forms when searching or checking an address.

The clearest current physical reference is Lao Mahindra’s Luang Prabang dealer. Its contact page gives the address as 13 North Road, Viengmai Village, Luang Prabang District, Luang Prabang Province. The same page lists Mon–Sat, 8am–5pm for the Luang Prabang entry. That makes North Road and Viengmai Village practical words to show a driver or compare against a map. It is an address reference rather than a reason to assume that every part of the village has the same shops, opening hours or road surface.

There is a second, older address in the SWITCH-Asia/GIZ Handle with Care project material: a project team leader contact at Ban Viengmai House 24 Unit 8. The project ran from May 2016 to April 2019. Treat that entry as a dated project contact, not as a current office listing or a public association address. It is still useful when comparing older project documents or checking whether the project contact has moved.

For a first look, use the H16 village label, then check whether the place you are visiting is described as Viengmai Village or is being given by North Road and a house number. Those references identify a locality and an address; they do not define the full village or certify a particular side street. The tourism map’s facility symbols are city-wide orientation aids, so confirm any hospital, market, school or other destination separately before relying on it.

Ban Viengmai therefore suits a guide built around names and address literacy. It is possible to explain where the village is in relation to the old-town peninsula and to give the North Road dealer as a concrete landmark. The available official and institutional material does not justify a long list of neighbourhood amenities, a current transport timetable or a claim about the wider residential fabric. Check the Lao Mahindra page before setting out, and use the village spelling that matches the address you have in hand.
